Is your politician a piece of shit? Let's find out.
Today we're grading Cindy Hyde-Smith, Republican senator from Mississippi who's up for re-election November 3rd. We've been breaking down how big money is ruining everything. Let’s take a look at big money in politics.
Cindy Hyde-Smith doesn't just have two last names. She also has two faces. After ten years in the Mississippi Senate as a Democrat, she switched parties to Republican in 2010, right before she ran for statewide office.
In 2018, she told a crowd that if a supporter "invited me to a public hanging, I'd be on the front row." This was so bad by the way that even Walmart asked her to return donations, but FEC filings actually show she kept $50,000 for herself. Not really sure where that money went.
That same month, another video caught her calling it a "great idea" to make voting "a little more difficult" for "liberal folks." That’s voter fraud!
Some politicians actually take either 0 or close to 0 money from PACs, but not Cindy! This cycle alone she’s taken $1.3 million from PACs. Last December, she also voted to block a ban on members of Congress trading stocks.
Cindy Hyde-Smith, your grade is a 23.4 out of 100.
