Grass privacy policy

Effective September 21, 2026. Applies to the Grass mobile app (Grass: Independent Shop Map) on Android and iOS, published by Cadre.

The short version

Grass has no accounts and no ads. Your location stays on your phone. The only information we store about you is what you choose to put in a report, and whether you hold a membership.

Location

With your permission, Grass reads your phone's location to center the map on you and to sort nearby businesses by distance. That happens on the device. Your last position is saved on the phone so the map opens where you were. It is never sent to Cadre. You can turn location off in your phone's settings and the app keeps working with a map you pan by hand.

Map tiles and search

The map is drawn from tiles served by OpenFreeMap, and address or neighborhood search is answered by the Photon geocoder run by Komoot. Like any website, those services receive the requests your phone makes: the map area you are viewing and the text you type into search, along with your IP address. We do not send them anything else, and we do not receive anything back about you.

Reports

When you report a problem with a business listing, we store the report: which listing, the issue type, what you wrote, an evidence link if you added one, and your email address if you chose to give it. Reports are reviewed by a person. We use your email only to follow up on that report, and we keep reports so that corrections can be traced back to their source. Reports are stored with Supabase in the United States.

Membership

Memberships are sold through Google Play or the Apple App Store and managed by RevenueCat. Your payment details go to Google or Apple, never to us. RevenueCat gives us an anonymous identifier for your device and whether the membership is active, so the app can unlock member features and restore them after a reinstall. You can cancel any time through the store, and the store's own privacy policy covers the purchase itself.

What we do not do

No analytics or advertising SDKs. No selling or sharing of personal information. No tracking across other apps or websites. No data about children: Grass is not directed at anyone under 13 and we do not knowingly collect information from them.

Business listings

The businesses on the map come from OpenStreetMap and public research about ownership, including partner datasets. That information is about businesses, not about you. If you own a business and believe a listing is wrong, use the Report button in the app or email us.

Your choices

Deleting the app deletes the location and settings it stored on your phone. To have a report you filed removed, or to ask what we hold about an email address, write to us and we will answer within 30 days.

Changes and contact

If this policy changes in a way that matters, the date at the top changes and the app will point to the new version. Questions go to info@cadrecorps.com.
